Watching Access Hollywood last night I learned that Tori Spelling did in fact lose the baby weight via NutriSystem. Believe it or not NutriSystem happens to be the first and only diet the Beverly Hill's 90210 star has ever followed.

“I went on the NutriSystem program after I had the baby and it took the weight off,” Tori told Access Hollywood. “I’m actually a few pounds thinner now, than I was before I had Liam."

Because Tori had never dieted before she was worried if it would be difficult. “I was terrified! I thought, ‘Oh my God! I can’t be so strict. I can’t be on flavorless food, tiny portions. What am I going to do? Am I going to starve to death?’” Tori recounted. “Then I went on NutriSystem it was convenient. It was easy.”

As for exercise this naturally thin mom admits she barely hits the gym . “It’s not like I had to workout heavily for a workout every day, except my baby is really heavy now, so that is a little of an arm workout,” Tori said.

HOW TO JUMP START YOUR WEIGHT LOSS VIA NUTRISYSTEM:

  • NutriSystem is designed to include low Glycemic Index carbohydrates and the right amounts of protein and fiber, yet still be low in fat. Each food item fits into the NutriSystem Nourish low-glycemic meal plan that's very easy to follow. You just grab an entrée, add-in a few grocery items (like fresh fruits, vegetables, salads and dairy items), and you're ready to go. Plus! You get to eat five times a day to help reduce those cravings between meals!
  • First choose one of the six programs available. They have special plans for everyone including women, men, diabetics and vegetarians.
  • Place your order which will include 28 Breakfasts, lunches, dinners and desserts. 28 days of NutriSystem delivered to your door will cost you just under $400. Which actually isn't so bad considering the cost of food at the grocery store. I must spend at least $50 a day on food between two people because healthy organic food is super expensive.

When its television screens go blank on Saturday, the Nickelodeon cable network is advising its viewers not to fiddle with the buttons -- but to go outside and play.

The three hours of dead air the children's network will begin broadcasting at noon (EDT/PDT) is part of its fourth annual world wide day of play, an encouragement to kids to get outside and work on getting in shape.

Later that day, any kids who have gotten the exercise bug might tune into the network's "Let's Just Play Go Healthy Challenge" (6 p.m. EDT/PDT) and compare what they did with other kids whose exercise regimens have been spotlighted on the show.

I think it's great that Nickelodeon is taking part in such an important cause. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimate that approximately 19 percent of children (ages 6-11) and 17 percent of adolescents (ages 12-19) are considered overweight. And then, there's the future: Researchers predict that nearly half the children in North America will be overweight by 2010. An alarming 80 percent of these children will likely be overweight as adults, placing them at a higher risk of developing health problems like high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes.

Deceptively Delicious is a book that’ll help you to get your kids eating healthier food. The author Jessica Seinfeld is a mom who got sick and tired of telling her children to eat their vegetables.

“She hides cauliflower in chicken nuggets, folds butternut squash into macaroni and cheese, and sneaks spinach into individual-size pita pizzas” describes Vogue.

In her book Jessica shares nearly one hundred parent friendly recipes and she promises that your kids won’t notice the difference. She insists “every kid who eats at my house eats my food” and adds “ I have never had one kid say ‘Ewe, is there spinach in here?’ ”.

Her recipes including donuts made with pumpkin and sweet potato and chocolate chip cookies made with chic peas sound mouth watering. You don’t have to be a mother to enjoy the creatively healthy recipes featured in this book.  Deceptively Delicious sells HERE for $17

CNN reports that heavy kids miss more school. A new study observing more than 1,000 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from the Philadelphia school system found 4 main predictors for missing school including

  • RACE
  • AGE
  • SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS
  • GENDER

Digging deeper research discovered that overweight students were absent 20% more often than other kids. They suggest that the heavier children are avoiding school because of bullying and athletic performance in gym class. They interviewed one overweight girl who said " They would call me cupcake as a joke and I would just sorta laugh about it cause you know I knew I couldn't do anything about it."

Doctors say that their research shows being overweight not only causes health problems in children but psychological ones as well. They say that schools need to look at how they can help kids with weight issues over come these issues so that they can feel more comfortable at school.
