  • If time permits have a 20 minute workout when you wake up. Run on the treadmill, do yoga stretches, crunches, push ups etc...
  • Be sure to eat a well balanced breakfast. Good choices would be whole grain cereal and fruit or scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast.
  • Wear something that flatters your figure so that you can feel good about your body. Don't leave room for over consumption.
  • Choose ordures wisely. Go for shrimp cocktail or the veggie platter, but limit yourself.
  • Stick with lower calorie alcoholic beverages. Light beer or vodka and soda water are great choices, but don't drink too much.
  • Sometimes it's hard to keep your mind off the food on Christmas. Be festively social, keep your mouth busy chatting rather than chewing. Also seat yourself furthest from the buffet.
  • Don't forget to drink lots of water.
  • Serve yourself so that you can decide the portion sizes. Eat smaller portions of the "naughty" options and larger portions of the "nice" options.
  • Eat slowly and you'll be less likely to over stuff yourself. Try to avoid going back for seconds.
  • At dessert time only have sample size portions or steal a bite from your guy.
  • Don't take home any leftovers!!!!

Personal trainer and certified sports nutritionist Alyte Piedra, shares her top secrets for avoiding the holiday weight gain.

First, she suggests that you strut your stuff. "When going to a party, wear high heels. Not only will you be working on your calves, core and balance, you will automatically look thinner. Another plus...you'll be less likely to keep going up to the buffet for seconds."

If you do go back for seconds, Piedra suggests that you follow the "less is more" philosophy when it comes to the plates. "Instead of a regular plate, use a dessert or appetizer plate. Since it's smaller in size, you'll eat less."

She also offers some practical drinking advice. "Have a bloody mary. Not only is it lower in calories than other mixed drinks, but you also get to count it as a serving of veggies."

Dress for success. "Wear a form-fitting dress or tight skirt or pants. You will automatically want to eat less. If you do go back for seconds, you will immediately be reminded to put your fork down."
